The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), one of the most important mechanisms for civil society organisations' (CSOs) participation in the United Nations system, has called for consultative status. EKOSOK's consultative status allows CSOs to participate in UN meetings, submit written and oral statements of opinion, organise side events and interact directly with other actors.
CSOs wishing to apply for EKOSOK Consultative Status for the 2026 evaluation period must apply by 1 June 2025 at the latest. Applications will be evaluated by the Non-Governmental Organisations Unit of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
An online information webinar will be held in English on 6 May 2025 for organisations interested in getting detailed information about the application process. Officials recommend that CSOs interested in the application process should attend this webinar.
The criteria to be fulfilled by the CSOs to apply are as follows:
- Active activity for at least two years,
- To be officially registered and non-profit-making,
- To have a management in accordance with the principles of democratic governance,
- To run a programme directly linked to the UN's areas of work.
