Together Institutional Support Program Trainings and CSO Meetings

All trainings organized in scope of BIRLIKTE: Local CSOs Institutional Support Program are open only for the CSOs that got the support from the program. All these trainings are designed and applied as to the needs of BIRLIKTE beneficiary CSOs and potential development areas. In addition to the needs determined with the self-evaluation study made in the beginning of every application year by every BIRLIKTE program beneficiary CSO, before every training, specific needs and expectations for that training title were asked to the CSOs to design trainings dedicatedly for program beneficiary CSOs as upmost as possible.

Birlikte Institutional Support Program Trainings and CSO Meetings

All trainings organized in scope of BIRLIKTE: Local CSOs Institutional Support Program are open only for the CSOs that got the support from the program. All these trainings are designed and applied as to the needs of BIRLIKTE beneficiary CSOs and potential development areas.

In addition to the needs determined with the self-evaluation study made in the beginning of every application year by every BIRLIKTE program beneficiary CSO, before every training, specific needs and expectations for that training title were asked to the CSOs to design trainings dedicatedly for program beneficiary CSOs as upmost as possible.

In all BIRLIKTE Trainings, as a general methodology, in addition to trainer presentations and lectures, group work for making the organizations learn from each other and exercises for applying institutional capacity building are also performed. 

These trainings and their subtitles are below:

Grant Application Training

BIRLIKTE Support Program also includes institutional grant support for meeting the most fundamental needs of CSOs, in addition to the mentorship program that contributes to the development and empowerment of program beneficiary CSOs.

Grant application training performed in the beginning stage of institutional support is designed for providing basic information about grant application rules, reporting requirements and the framework of institutional support program to the program beneficiary CSOs.

The training lasted for two days included these sessions:

  • Sub-Grant Contract and Contract Changes
  • Budget Management and Financial Regularity
  • EU Think Civil Program Application
  • Budget Management and Financial Regularity
  • Documentation and Reporting
  • Monitoring and Evaluation in Support Program
  • Institutional Capacity Development Model
  • Communication and Visibility (EU Visibility Rules)
  • Monitoring Information System (MIS)

Participant Video Workshop Training

Participant Video Workshop Training's main objective was to provide necessary equipment and abilities for making program beneficiary CSOs to express themselves better and effective in social media. At the end of training, it was aimed to make CSOs have necessary infrastructure to create both their own video archive and other visual communication material.

Training organized in Ankara for three days included these sessions:

  • What is Visual Narration Structure?
  • Film Crew
  • What is frame and viewfinder?
  • What is plan?
  • Camera angles
  • Camera Moves and Purposes of Use- Areas
  • General features of Video-photo applications in mobile devices  Interface and settings
  • Accessories increasing shooting quality in mobile devices
  • Basic "set-ups" that can be used in certain conditions and atmospheres.
  • General montage theory and standard cutting examples
  • Editing applications in mobile devices
  • Performing shooting applications
  • Mounting of the shootings of participants on mobile devices by the participants.

CSO Management Training 1

After the first self-evaluation study made in the beginning of the program, it was determined that governance and decision taking and strategic planning were the prioritized institutional development areas of program beneficiary CSOs. It was decided to organize the first CSO management training on these areas.

At the end of this training, it was aimed to make program beneficiary CSOs get basic information about historical development of rights based approach, have the perspective to be able to organize an advocacy campaign, be familiar with the basic principles of governance, decision making and strategic planning and have the experience to be able to continue working with their mentors in these areas thanks to these topics.

CSO Management Training 1 was organized in Izmir for four days under these training titles below:

  • Rights Based Approach and CSO history
  • Advocacy
  • Governance and Decision Taking
  • Strategic Planning

CSO Management Training 2 

Like in the first CSO management training, the content of this training was also decided as to the primary needs occurred in the first self-evaluation study organized at the beginning of mentorship program.

With this training, it was aimed to make BIRLIKTE program beneficiary CSOs have basic information about the legal regulations and their requirements, CSO finance management, and being able to create staff and volunteer management systems.

CSO Management Training 2 was organized in Ankara for 4 days, including these titles below:

  • Management of Associations, Foundations and Cooperatives
  • Finance Management
  • Legislative Regulations
  • Legal legislations
  • Staff and Volunteer Management

Communication and Digital Tools

The content of the communication and digital tools training, like in other trainings, was also determined as to the self-evaluation study results. At the end of training, it was aimed to make BIRLIKTE program beneficiary CSOs prepare their communication plan, have technical information about target group, message, insight, story writing, writing press statement and learning usage of digital platforms by practice.

The training organized in Ankara included these sessions for three days:

Resource Development

One of the important need areas in institutional development of BIRLIKTE program beneficiary CSOs was resource development.

Before resource development training, by taking demands and expectations of BIRLIKTE program beneficiary CSOs into account, resource development training for three days was designed which handles resource development in line with vision and mission of CSO and considers it as a whole institutional strategy. At the end of training, it was aimed to make participant CSOs develop a more integrated perspective, instead of seeing resource development only as "creating money", that considers other organizational values except monetary resources and shape their strategy in this way.

After preparation stage is completed, face-to-face sessions of resource trainings were cancelled because of force majeure born due to the pandemic measures.  Right after the cancellations, BIRLIKTE team organized online workshops for 4 days to determine the problems that program beneficiary CSOs face during pandemic period and urgent needs. Resource development training was re-designed as to the feedback taken in these workshops and moved to the online platform.

Result based Approach in Project Preparation and Management

It is designed to facilitate BIRLIKTE program beneficiary CSOs process to transform the changes they desired to create into a project idea. It aims to introduce participants to "Result-Oriented Approach" that they can ground on in project preparation and management processes and contribute to the practical ability levels about project preparation. It contributes to the participants about the meaning of result-oriented approach not only in project preparation but also in application and monitoring processes and how it has a practical existence.

Webinars (Internet seminars)

Informative webinar sessions on various topics are organized via online platforms for program beneficiary CSOs in scope of BIRLIKTE Support Program.

Webinars are focused especially on providing technical support for program beneficiaries to facilitate application process of program. Till today, webinar sessions in basic topics like technical and financial application rules, reporting, requirements of mentorship program have been organized. In addition to that, experience sharing sessions, and various informative sessions about capacity building and resource development are also organized from time to time. 

CSO Meetings

BIRLIKTE: Local CSOs Institutional Support Program beneficiary CSOs are gathered together in BIRLIKTE Support Program CSO meetings.

In CSO meetings, making program beneficiary organizations get to know each other better, sharing their information and experience about their own work field and studies they made in scope of BIRLIKTE, developing new partnerships and cooperations, learning from each other and empower themselves by this way are aimed.

3 CSO Meetings were organized up until today.

In the first CSO Meeting organized in Izmir in the first semester of the program, it was mainly aimed to make program beneficiary organizations get to know each other better. Activities, games and group work for this target were actualized.

An important outcome of First CSO Meeting was an CSO metro map created as a result of an activity to make organizations get to know each other better and transformin it into a BIRLIKTE CSO map with digital tool and share it with organizations. In this map, basic information about the province, primary objectives, target group and work field of every program beneficiary CSO. 

The Second BIRLIKTE Support Program CSO Meeting was organized in Ankara in the second semester of the program. In this second meeting, program beneficiary organizations shared their experience about self-evaluation and improvement process especially, in the scope of institutional development program. The organizations mentioned the experience they had in the process and had the opportunity to see the program with the others' eye and evaluate it.  In addition to that, sessions in which they share their success stories in their own work field were also organized. 

Third CSO Meeting of BIRLIKTE was organized on digital platform during COVID-19 process, on 8-9-10 April. The main topic of online meeting was about how the organizations experienced COVID-19 process, problems they faced and solutions they created, what are changing needs of their target group and how they met them. Meeting sessions were organized in 5 groups as to the thematic areas of the organizations. In this process, the importance of solidarity and cooperating with different institutions to meet changing needs of target group and need of using digital platforms were outstanding titles. These meetings enabled organizations to discuss resources and resource development tools they need for institutional sustainability, capacity building and meeting the needs of target group in the new period. At the end of meetings, organizations expressed that getting together empowered them and had the chance of learning from each other.

Mentor Trainings

Every CSO supported in scope of BIRLIKTE: Local CSOs Institutional Support Program worked with a mentor throughout the program. Mentors, throughout mentorship program, provided technical support to the CSOs they work with especially in self-evaluation studies, making prioritization and creating improvement plan, realization of improvements included in improvement plan and in other fields born because of urgent needs and facilitated them.
