Turkey In Top Five of RSF “Journalists in Jail” List!

According to RSF report, Turkey is one of the top-five countries ranked in "the countries with the most journalists in jail”.

According to Reporters Without Borders Organization (RSF) data, 21 journalists, Internet users and citizen journalists are killed in the first 4 months of 2012 and 161 journalists are imprisoned.

RSF stated that the most journalists' murders took place in Syria and Somali; 4 journalists were killed in these countries in that period.

Turkey ranked in the top five list of "the countries with the most journalists in jail". The other countries are Iran, Eritrea, China and Syria.

Finland is the land of freedom

According to RSF, 66 journalists were killed, 1044 journalists are taken into custody, 1959 journalists were attacked or threatened, 499 media censored, 71 journalists were detained, 73 journalists had to escape from their countries throughout the world in 2011.

According to the World Press Freedom Index, the country with the most free press is Finland. Norway and Estonia follows Finland in the list. The countries with worst track records are Eritrea, North Korea and Turkmenistan.

96 journalists are in jail

RSF mentioned that dozens of journalists were arrested due to Ergenekon, Revolutionary Headquarters and Union of Communities in Kurdistan (KCK) trials.

According to bianet Media Monitoring Report, 96 journalists and 35 newspaper distributors are in jail by May 3, 2012.
