Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival 2026 Documentary Co-Production Grant Program

IDFA Bertha Fund (IBF) Europe, organized under the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA), has opened the 2026 application period to support international minority co-production creative documentary projects.

Scope of the program and amount of support

A maximum grant of 40,000 Euros will be provided to the projects selected as a result of the evaluation. The total budget of the project (development, production, and post-production) must not exceed 600,000 Euros, and it is mandatory that at least 15% of the IBF Europe grant provided is spent in the MEDIA country where the applicant is based (for creative/technical expenses such as editing, color grading, etc.).

Supported areas

  • Creative documentary projects with a duration of at least 60 minutes.
  • Projects in the late production stage (final shooting) or in the editing/post-production stage. (Projects that are only at the idea or script stage are not supported).

Who can apply?

The partnership structure applying to the program must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicant: Must be an independent production company registered and operating in a country participating in the Creative Europe MEDIA program (including Turkey).
  • Director: Must be a citizen of a country listed among the IBF Europe target countries (Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Oceania). (Directors who have left their home countries and live in the diaspora are also considered eligible).
  • Partnership Share: The financial share of the applicant European (or Turkish) production company in the project must be at least 20% and no more than 50% (minority share).

Institutions must complete their applications by April 1, 2026 at the latest. The second application period will close on January 15, 2027.
