Analysis of the Ombudsman institution's decision on child monitoring centers published

The Ombudsman Institution's Recommendation decision on Child Monitoring Centers (ÇİM) was also included in the reports prepared by the Association for Monitoring Equal Rights under the title Decision Analysis Series. The analysis prepared by lawyer Selmin Cansu Demir shows how the institution uses its influence on access to justice for disadvantaged groups and an important opportunity that can contribute to shaping public policies related to children.

What is the recommendation about?

The applicant stated that funds should be allocated to individual centers to meet the daily food and clothing needs of children brought to ÇİMs due to allegations of sexual abuse. Most of the ÇİMs, which work around the clock, are located in the centers of the provinces, and in the cases where the ÇİMs are not available in some provinces, the victim children are taken to ÇİMs located in remote places. He added that there may be problems in meeting the daily needs of the victim children and their families during the procedures there, that these needs are not met in the hospitals, that there are no resources allocated by the administrations in the coordination centers for this problem, and that the needs of the children are met with the efforts of the staff and irregular donations, while calling for a decision on a recommendation to allocate separate funds to the ÇİMs to meet the daily needs of the victim children in need.
