An Art and Participation Experience Extending from Digital Engagement to Collective Memory: Join, Add Meaning!

Young people's demands regarding local decision-making processes often become invisible as they turn into reports, tables, and data sets. To reverse this invisibility, the Peer Project launched the “Join, Add Meaning!” campaign. The campaign transforms young people’s experiences into a collective artistic memory through a digital map.

"Join, Add Meaning!" makes young people's experiences, demands, and objections regarding local governments visible through the digital pixels they leave on the map of Turkey. However, these pixels are not just mere marks; they carry emotion, memory, and a call to action.

From Data to Memory: The Artistic Transformation of Digital Participation

The strongest aspect that distinguishes this campaign from similar ones is that the participation process continues with an artistic curation practice.

Throughout the process, the pixels left by young people are interpreted by curators, artists, and the project team through live broadcasts and free association sessions. Individual contributions turn into a collective narrative. The resulting works will be presented to the audience as an independent digital exhibition at the end of the campaign.
