Call for Expression of Interest (EOI) for Applications for the Eco-Innovation Challenge for Blueing the Black Sea: a GEF regional project

The Eco-Innovation Challenge, a flagship initiative under the Blueing the Black Sea (BBSEA) GEF Regional Project implemented by the World Bank and UNOPS, seeks innovative solutions to tackle four key Black Sea pollution issues: agricultural/livestock runoff, municipal wastewater, chemical/industrial pollution, and marine litter. 

Program Aim

The core objective of the competition is to launch readily implementable solutions or early-stage ideas, supported by financial and technical resources, to reverse pollution problems in the Black Sea region. 

Who can apply?

Eligible innovators from World Bank-recognized countries can apply under two windows: the BBSEA Focus Country Window(for ready-to-implement solutions in Georgia, Moldova, and Türkiye) or the Greater Black Sea Window (for early-stage ideas applicable to the region). 

Funding support

Grants under the BBSEA Focus Country Window range from USD 50,000 to USD 300,000. Technical assistance worth up to USD 20,000 is available through the Greater Black Sea Window. Key Dates: The Application Deadline is set for November 30, 2025.
