Call for Volunteers - Project to Fight Hate Speech Against Roma in Turkey

The Romani Godi- Roma Memory Studies Association is looking for volunteers to support its work in the project "Fighting Hate Speech against Romas in Turkey". The aim of the project is to monitor and report hate speech against Roma in traditional and digital media and to develop an effective fight against this discourse. Volunteers will be able to acquire skills to raise awareness and advocate for Roma rights by participating in workshops prepared as part of the project.

What are the topics of the workshops organized as part of the project?

  • Basic human rights education
  • Training on the rights-based approach and dissemination of rights
  • Training on combating hate speech, hate crime and anti-gypsyism
  • Gender equality and dissemination
  • Advocacy training
  • Training on campaign development
  • Local, national and international justice mechanisms and methods of accessing these mechanisms
  • Local, national and international gender equality mechanisms and methods of accessing these mechanisms
  • Strategic litigation

How does the program work? 

  • Introductory event and training program (end of February, to be announced once the exact date is set)
  • Selection of 20 volunteers and capacity building workshops
  • Monitoring and reporting of studies on hate speech against Roma in the media (Zoom meeting and in-person events)
  • Forwarding cases requiring legal action to the ERRC and following up the process
  • Final meeting to evaluate the progress of the project (April 2025)
