Civil Pages Organizes Civil Society Journalism Trainings in 6 Cities

Civil Pages organizes Civil Society Journalism Trainings in 6 cities from different regions of Turkey with the support of the European Endowment for Democracy. The workshops to be held in Çanakkale, Konya, Samsun, Trabzon, Gaziantep and Van will be conducted by bianet editor Evrim Kepenek. The application deadline for the training, in which the applications of NGO representatives and volunteers from the workshop provinces and neighboring provinces will be accepted, is September 15, 2021.

Civil Society Journalism training to be organized with the support of the European Endowment for Democracy;  aims to bring in new content producers to Civil Pages, the only channel that produces content in the field of civil society in Turkey, and to help NGOs at the local level reach the capacity to report their activities, write news texts and convey them to the local-national press.

Civil Society Journalism covers journalism and producing content on issues of interest to civil society. From this point of view, the main framework of Civil Society Journalism Education is with which sensitivities the content to be produced should be made and ethical values, principles, and other issues that should be taken into account while producing content.

The content of the training to be given by Bianet editor Evrim Kepenek will be shaped by the understanding of "rights-based journalism".

After the training, a Civil Society Journalism training module will be prepared for people from all cities of Turkey who are interested in civil society journalism and will be made available as open-source on the website of Civil Pages.

Application Conditions

  • Working in a non-governmental organization;
  • Being a member of a non-governmental organization (association, foundation, professional organization, initiative, platform, cooperative) or volunteering
  • To want to take part in civil society and contribute to the civil field after participating in this training, even though they are not affiliated with the civil society, member, or volunteer;
  • Commit to participating in all of the training from beginning to end.

Scope of Education

  • How can I write the news? What are the practical methods?
  • What tools can we produce content with?
  • I want to write an introductory article about a report or event produced by my institution/organization. What should I pay attention to?
  • How can I better explain the issues related to the NGO/NGO I work with?
  • How should I convey my message to the reader? (How many messages can be in a text?)
  • Can I gain experience with practical examples?
  • Can we learn together through sample news/text reviews?

  • News writing and basic principles suitable for civil society journalism
  • Identifying the message for the reader and planning the content
  • Considerations when preparing an introductory letter in civil society
  • Next-generation media tools
