Merzifon Motorhane building, which was established in the 1930s for energy production and remained idle for many years, was transformed into a cultural centre within the scope of the project. The aim is to turn this building into an important focal point in the cultural development of not only Merzifon but also the Middle Black Sea region.
The transformation process of Motorhane will be carried out by the Motorhane Culture Network, which consists of artists, art communities, academics and civil society representatives from Merzifon, in cooperation with local administrations. This process, which started with the opening events, will continue with a participatory and democratic cultural programming approach.
What is Motorhane Culture Network?
Motorhane Culture Network is being implemented by Sinop Sustainable Development Association in partnership with Merzifon Municipality, Urban.koop Urban Studies Cooperative and ÇEKÜL Foundation. The project aims to increase cultural interaction in Merzifon and to make this process sustainable with the cooperation of local government.
Cultural actors from Merzifon, including artists, academics, youth, business people, local government representatives and civil society workers, play an important role in the project, which sets out with the aim of creating a community. This community also carries out the planning processes of the cultural network.
A Summer Full of Events
Motorhane will host numerous cultural events throughout the summer of 2025. Two festivals are planned to be organised as part of the project. With the arrangements to be made in the garden and annex buildings, it is aimed to carry out many activities such as open-air cinema screenings, concerts, workshops and marketplace events.
In addition, within the scope of the cooperation protocol planned to be signed with Amasya University, applied courses and joint educational contents will be implemented in Motorhane.
