The conference aims to address the structural issues facing democracy across Europe and to develop joint solutions for the protection and expansion of civic space. The event seeks to contribute to the need for democratic renewal emphasized in the Council of Europe Secretary General’s 2025 report.
The two-day conference will cover topics such as the shrinking of civic space, freedom of association and expression, the participation of civil society in decision-making processes, and the effects of digitalization on democracy. Additionally, the role and responsibilities of civil society within the framework of the proposed New Democratic Pact for Europe will be discussed.
The event is expected to be attended by Council of Europe officials, representatives of member states, international organizations, academics, and civil society organization representatives. The conference will provide a platform aimed at strengthening dialogue and cooperation between civil society and public authorities.
Registration for participation in the conference will be open until January 19, 2026. The event can be attended both in-person and online.
