The European Commission published an information document (COM/2025/46 final) titled ‘The Road to the Next Multiannual Financial Framework’ on 12 February 2025 as part of the preparations for the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) of the European Union for 2028-2034.
The document emphasised the need to make the EU budget more effective, simple, flexible and policy-oriented to meet current challenges, and launched a consultation process on how the budget will be shaped in line with Europe's priorities such as competitiveness, security, climate change, migration, enlargement and foreign policy. In the consultation process, ‘EU Funds for External Action’ stands out as one of the prominent topics.
