EU TACSO 3 “Active Citizenship, Civic Initiatives, and Volunteering” meeting announcement

Under the title of “Active Citizenship, Civil Initiatives and Volunteering”, EU TACSO 3 Project(Technical Assistance Project for Civil Society Organizations in the Western Balkans and Turkey); organizing a People To People event for civil society organizations (CSOs) in Turkey, to discuss different volunteer management and orientation mechanisms as well as the appropriate legal framework for volunteering with CSOs working in different thematic areas. (Deadline: Friday, June 18, 2021)

The event, which will take place in the form of three half-day meetings, aims to bring together more than 50 CSOs from Turkey working with volunteers in various thematic areas. In addition, a Final Report will be prepared, which will compile the discussions held during the event and recommendations for the establishment of a favorable legal framework for volunteering in Turkey. The three half-day events will cover topics such as the conceptual framework of volunteering and will introduce good examples of the legal environment conducive to volunteering in Turkey. In addition, the event will feature CSOs from at least three countries that have developed a legal framework for volunteering, and from various thematic areas, with their voluntary management and orientation mechanisms. The event will provide an opportunity to share experiences and will consist of parallel subgroup studies as well as panel sessions with different speakers.

The main objectives of the event are:

To provide a space for sharing experience in volunteering as well as different volunteer management and orientation mechanisms;

  • Discuss existing legal frameworks, ethics, and codes of conduct regarding volunteering;
  • Discuss with the participating CSOs the barriers to volunteering and existing volunteer management and orientation mechanisms developed by different CSOs;
  • To discuss what a legal framework should be for volunteering in Turkey, and what the opportunities and limitations might be in drawing up a legal framework for volunteering.

Three half-day events on active citizenship, civic initiatives, and volunteering will be held online. The event will be held in Turkish or a simultaneous translation service will be provided during the event.

The event targets a variety of CSOs, including volunteer-based CSOs and/or CSOs working with volunteers; citizen initiatives; community-based organizations; recently established civil society networks, etc.

Three half-day events on active citizenship, civic initiatives, and volunteering will be held on 23-25 ​​June 2021, every day from 10:00 to 13:30 (Turkey time). The event aims to bring together more than 50 NGOs from various thematic areas working with volunteers from Turkey. The deadline for application is Friday, June 18, 2021, at 17.00.

CSOs wishing to participate in the event can apply by filling in and submitting the application form via the EU TACSO 3 Information System (CRM) (via the online application form provided at the link above). Each CSO can participate in the event with a representative.

Applications received for participation in the event will be evaluated by the EU TACSO 3 team according to the following criteria:

  • Regional distribution
  • Thematic area distribution
  • Gender equality
  • Volunteer-based CSOs and/or CSOs working with volunteers

European Union TACSO 3 is a technical assistance project focusing on strengthening participatory democracies and harmonization processes with the EU in the Western Balkans and Turkey (www.tacso.eu). In this sense, EU TACSO 3 aims to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations to take an active role in democratic processes and to promote a conducive environment for the development of civil society and pluralistic media.
