Freedom of Expression Association Launches Program on “Standards and Procedural Obligations in Freedom of Expression Cases”

The Freedom of Expression Association (İFOD) is adding a new chapter to its capacity-building programs aimed at raising awareness in the field of freedom of expression and supporting the development of legal skills. Since 2019, the program has been implemented in various cities across Turkey, and this time it will take place in Adana on October 25–26, 2025.

The training, which will address common violations encountered in criminal cases and administrative judiciary, is open to lawyers, students, as well as employees of civil society and media organizations engaged in case monitoring.

Main topics to be covered in the program:

  • Procedural obligations and national/international standards regarding freedom of expression
  • Obligations of prosecutors in criminal investigations, issues related to statements and indictments
  • The prosecution process in criminal cases, evidence collection, adversarial proceedings, and the principle of equality of arms
  • Application of ECtHR and Constitutional Court standards in decision-making processes, problems in appeal and cassation
  • Procedural issues in administrative cases related to notification, hearings, and decision-making

Full attendance will be required from participants. Those who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of participation.

Application requirements and process

  • The program is open only to those residing in Adana.
  • Applications will only be accepted online.
  • Application deadline: Sunday, October 12, 2025 – 23:00
  • Participant selection will consider motivation for full attendance, gender equality, and diversity of identities.
