According to the “2024 Annual Report” of Hatay Surf Center, which offers young people the opportunity to catch their own waves for a better life, most of the young people who meet surfing feel better, safer and more hopeful than before. They also want to spend more time with the sea and the waves, as their belief that Samandağ can offer a future for them again after the destruction has been strengthened.
The center, which introduced 1000 young people and their families to surfing in its first year, provided beginner level surfing training to these students and trained 20 young people as future surfing leaders, also made an impression with its success in the 2024 Turkey Wave Surfing Championship. Thanks to the center, which brought Hatay 6 trophies from this competition in which 21 young people affected by the earthquake participated, young people will be prepared for international experiences and success in surfing.
Future surfing leaders are being trained in Hatay
Hatay Surf Center, a non-profit organization that aims to empower children and young people physically, mentally and spiritually through wave surfing and help them discover their potential, was established in the Samandağ district of Hatay in cooperation with the New Attempts Initiative Platform Association, Mellow Turkey and Support to Life. Acting with the vision of adapting the transformative power of surfing to the lives of young people and the livelihoods of the region, the center aims to increase sensitivity to nature and support local development through surf training.
Believing that Hatay's young people have the potential to become surfing leaders, Hatay Surf Center works to train earthquake-affected children and young people in different fields through the Surfing Leadership Program every year. The center, which creates personalized training programs by considering safety and the holistic well-being of the child, not only develops the surfing skills of young people, but also supports them in different fields such as education, art and foreign languages.
