Intellectual Bridges: Türkiye – Europe Young Public Intellectuals Exchange Program

Supported by Stiftung Mercator and implemented by the 1984 Association (D84) in collaboration with the Social Climate Association, the Intellectual Bridges: Türkiye – Europe Young Public Intellectuals Exchange Program is now open for applications. The program aims to enable young academics and experts from Türkiye and Europe to learn from each other, build collaboration, and strengthen their capacities as public intellectuals.

The intensive training program will take place in Istanbul on 22–26 November 2025, featuring:

  • Discussions on current developments in Europe and the Middle East, European security architecture, democratic backsliding, environmental governance, migration, and digital activism
  • Practical trainings on effective speaking, science communication, and social media
  • Mentorship support from leading experts
  • Joint research and media projects (articles, podcasts, videos, etc.) with peers from Europe
  • Participation in an international forum in the Balkans in Spring 2026

Who can apply?

  • Young academics, experts, and intellectuals aged 18–35 residing in Türkiye
  • Master’s/PhD students in social sciences, humanities, or interdisciplinary fields, or graduates who have completed their degree within the past three years
  • Early-career professionals working in media, civil society, think tanks, or universities

Application

Applications must be completed in English and include either a short introductory video (1–2 minutes) or a motivation letter in English (up to 800 words).

The program is free of charge for selected participants. Travel, accommodation, and meal expenses for participants coming from outside Istanbul will be covered by D84.
