Interledger Foundation: Small grant support for local communities for financial inclusion

Interledger Foundation has announced the "Local Impact Mini-Grants" program to expand digital financial access at the local level. The program aims to provide funding to community groups and leaders working directly in their own regions, neighborhoods, or local markets for financial inclusion.

Purpose and Scope of the Program

The program aims to support ideas that will bring together local communities around open payments and digital financial access.

Mini-grants ranging from 500 USD to 3,000 USD per project are provided for direct project activities.

Projects must be completed within no more than 6 months from the acceptance of the grant.

Supported Activities / Fields

Provided that all activities are directly focused on "open payment systems" and "digital financial access", the following events are supported.

  • Meetups and workshops
  • Hackathons and community talks
  • Research studies
  • Storytelling and content creation

Eligibility Criteria (Who can apply?)

  • Civil society organizations (CSOs, associations, foundations), community organizations, non-profits, cooperatives, local fintech startups, social enterprises, and individual implementers/leaders with a concrete project plan can apply.
  • There is no specific geographic restriction for applying to the fund; however, projects serving communities in the "Global South," rural areas, or peri-urban areas with limited access to financial services are prioritized. CSOs, cooperatives, and individuals in Turkey can apply directly to this program.
  • Applicants are expected to have direct (first-hand) knowledge and experience regarding the communities they serve and the barriers they face.
