Memory Center is Looking for a Research Officer and a Lawyer

Hafıza Merkezi (Memory Center) is seeking a Research Officer and a Lawyer for its new project entitled "Justice Heals: A Holistic Approach to Violations of the Right to Life of Children and Adolescents."

The project, which will run for 3 years, aims to address impunity with a holistic approach to violations of the right to life of children and adolescents due to conflict, promote restorative justice mechanisms, and support victims with advocacy activities and legal interventions since the 2000s.

The application deadline for the Research Officer and Lawyer positions to be filled under the project is December 15, 2022. The details of the Research Officer call are as follows;

Among candidates who can work full time in the newly launched project summarized above, to the Memory and Peace Studies Program team:

  • Assume responsibility for the planning and implementation of all project research activities conducted by the Memory Center;
  • Continuing and expanding collaboration with the institutions, activists, academics, researchers, and other actors with whom the Memory Center is already in contact in Turkey and internationally;
  • Managing field research processes and actively participating in interviewing and data collection;
  • Conducting data analysis and writing research reports;
  • Collaborating with the communications team in disseminating and announcing research findings;
  • Will be expected to develop creative ideas to make the project sustainable.

Required Qualifications for Application

  • Have completed undergraduate and preferably graduate studies on topics related to the Memory Center's areas of work.
  • You have been involved in volunteer or professional work in areas such as human rights, peace studies, or Kurdish studies.
  • You have fieldwork experience (preferably working with Kurdish citizens),
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a similar field, preferably in civil society and/or universities,
  • Experience in project management, reporting and research design,
  • Propensity for teamwork and strong communication skills,
  • Expected to speak Turkish and Kurdish very well and have a good command of English.

The details of the lawyer's call are as follows;

The Law Studies Program collects documents from relevant individuals and organizations through field studies, investigates whether the state is fulfilling its responsibilities arising from national and international human rights laws, and conducts scientific research and prepares reports analyzing the attitude of the judiciary towards serious human rights violations in the area under study and conducts legal interventions before national and international human rights mechanisms.

Required Qualifications for Application

  • You have graduated from the Faculty of Law,
  • Specialized in the field of human rights and have at least 3 years of professional experience in the field,
  • Experience in the field of civil society,
  • Good command of the English language in speaking, writing and reporting,
  • Openness to teamwork
  • It is expected that there are no travel barriers to participate in the fieldwork.
  • Master's and doctoral degrees are preferred.
