A maximum grant of USD 100,000 will be provided to projects selected under the program. (Applicants with 5 years or less of early-career experience are recommended to request no more than USD 20,000). The implementation period for supported projects is set at a maximum of 2 years.
Supported activities / areas
- Climate and Energy Transition: Decarbonized energy, transition to renewable energy, and pathways to decarbonization.
- Nature and Land Systems: Water management, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and regenerative agriculture.
- Human and Built Systems: Climate migration, urban resilience, social adaptation, and the impacts of climate on public health.
- Adaptation to Extreme Weather Events: Journalism, documentaries, photography, and multimedia works documenting community responses and adaptation processes to hurricanes, heatwaves, wildfires, and floods.
Who can apply?
All professional storytellers, journalists, documentary filmmakers, photographers, writers, podcast producers, and educators from around the world can apply (applications from Turkey are fully eligible).
It is open to individual applications from both early-career and experienced professionals.
All candidates, whether previously holding the National Geographic Explorer title or applying for the first time, may be supported.
