National Geographic Coastal Ecosystems Conservation Grant Program

National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions have opened applications for the “Coastal Ecosystems for People and Planet” grant program, which aims to support projects focused on the conservation and sustainability of coastal ecosystems. The program seeks to support projects that protect, restore, and enhance the understanding of critical coastal ecosystems, known as blue forests, including mangroves, seagrasses, salt marshes, and kelp forests.

Purpose

  • Support conservation, restoration, and research projects focused on blue forest ecosystems (mangroves, seagrasses, kelp forests, salt marshes).
  • Highlight the critical role of these ecosystems in carbon sequestration, coastal protection, and biodiversity.
  • Prioritize projects that strengthen collaboration with local communities and center their knowledge and needs.

Who can apply?

  • Anyone 18 years or older.
  • Projects must focus on Science and Ocean disciplines (applications in storytelling/education will not be accepted).
  • Applicants with local connections or working in collaboration with local partners are preferred.
  • No minimum academic requirement; passion and expertise are what matter.

Eligibility criteria

  • Project must focus on blue forest ecosystems.
  • Applications and reporting must be completed in English.
  • Applicants must be willing to share project information with NG-LEX guests.
  • Strong proposals will include meaningful collaboration with local stakeholders and have achievable goals.
