Scope of the Program and Support Amount
Selected projects are granted up to a total of 300,000 USD for 1 to 4 years, with a maximum of 75,000 USD per year. At least 50% of the project budget must be used in low/middle-income countries (LMIC), and at least 40% of the budget must be allocated directly to Institutional Research Capacity Strengthening (IRCS) activities.
Supported Activities / Areas
- Improvement of research and quality management processes, establishment of financial coordination mechanisms and technology transfer offices.
- Providing attractive environments for young researchers, developing biostatistics competencies, or the establishment of new research laboratories/centers (centers of excellence).
Important Note: "Pure research" projects that are not directly related to institutional capacity building, staff training only for eye care services, or temporary structures that will be discontinued at the end of the project are not supported.
Who can apply?
- Research consortia with at least one partner based in an LMIC (low- or middle-income country—Turkey is included in this list) may apply. The principal investigator (PI) must be an academic research institution (NGOs can only participate as co-executor or project partner).
- In order to ensure knowledge transfer, at least one of the principal investigator (PI) or co-principal investigators (co-PI) must be a researcher at the R3 (established) or R4 (leading) level according to European standards.
- To ensure sustainability, it is mandatory to include at least one member of the senior executive/management team (in a decision-making position) from the target LMIC research institution as a PI or co-PI in the project.
