As the first step in the preparation process, the Commission has launched a “Call for Evidence.” This call is open to the views of civil society organizations, networks, experts, and individuals who wish to contribute to the future of democratic participation.
The new strategy is expected to provide a common framework on the following issues:
- Strengthening meaningful and long-term participation
- Addressing the shrinking space for civil society organizations and human rights defenders
- Identifying needs and mapping support measures
- Recognizing the vital role of civil society in all EU policy areas
The consultation process is also critical for building a robust strategy that reflects the experiences and needs of actors working on the ground. The process is open until September 5, 2025, for stakeholders who wish to share their views.
