Red Umbrella Association Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Founded in 2013 by sex workers to bring the problems of sex workers, who are among the vulnerable and disadvantaged social groups in Turkey, in terms of sexual health, social services and human rights to the agenda and to develop solutions to these problems, Red Umbrella celebrates its 10th anniversary.

In its written statement, Red Umbrella Association said "We will continue our struggle to defend the rights of sex workers, to have equal rights in every field and to live humanely. We were, we are, we will be. Happy 10 years for our struggle!" and celebrated its new anniversary. 

What has Red Umbrella done and is doing in 10 years?

  • It provides its beneficiaries with lawyer support, sexual and reproductive health counseling and body adaptation process counseling. 
  • Since 2015, it has been distributing sexual health materials to its beneficiaries. 
  • Regular trainings were given to experts working in the field of health and law, university students, academicians and all professional groups covering the field under the umbrella of LGBTI+s and sex workers. These trainings continue. 
  • Trainer trainings are organized regularly for its beneficiaries. In these trainings, sexual and reproductive health, access to justice, and gender issues are emphasized.
  • Since 2018, it has been working on removing barriers to access to protection services for key refugee groups living in Turkey.
  • Since 2021, it has been providing social service counseling services to its beneficiaries.
