The Çorbada Tuzun Olsun Association, which began as an initiative in 2014 and became an association in 2017, carries out its activities mainly in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. However, from time to time, it conducts nighttime explorations in different districts through volunteers to identify individuals living on the streets.
Soup distribution is not just a form of aid, but a way of building relationships
According to Tüfekçi, the association's soup distribution is not just a form of aid, but a way of building connections.
“Soup is a means of initiating communication. We strongly believe in the value of sharing. When you share something, communication begins, and then trust follows. This trust is formed both among volunteers and between volunteers and individuals living on the streets.”
The association has been going out into the field every day for 10 years to maintain regular contact with individuals living on the streets.
“You may not see someone you saw today tomorrow. Sometimes they reappear months later, sometimes you never see them again. Because the street is not a place that can be tracked. But we are out there every day.”
