The association, which has been working since 2010 to support the well-being of children, young people, and women, carries out activities in the fields of children's rights, child participation, safe relationships, psychosocial well-being, and women's solidarity together with its volunteers.
Who can apply?
Applications are open to individuals who:
- Commit to participating in the entire face-to-face orientation training,
- Are between 18-35 years old,
- Can dedicate one day a week, 3-4 hours, to the association’s activities,
- Reside in Istanbul,
- Are willing to work with children and women,
- Would like to contribute to awareness and empowerment efforts regarding discrimination, gender, and non-violent communication.
The association states that setting an age limit for the volunteer team to work with children throughout the year aims to make it easier for children to relate to volunteers and to prioritize enabling university students and recent graduates to gain experience in civil society.
What kind of activities will volunteers take part in?
SGD organizes arts- and movement-based workshops and library hours designed according to the psychosocial needs of children in different age groups. Activities held in local schools and the association premises are also supported by excursions and social events.
Within the scope of activities carried out with children, the goals are for children to learn and exercise their rights, recognize their personal boundaries, request safe environments, access support mechanisms, express their opinions, and participate in decision-making processes. Additionally, work is conducted to support children’s physical and psychological well-being, self-awareness, and the establishment of safe relationships with their peers and adults.
In its work with women, the association aims to strengthen solidarity environments among women and, by increasing awareness in the field of children’s and women’s rights, contribute to the well-being of women as well as the development of children.
