The M4D Open Innovation Challenge, launched to find solutions to the climate crisis and vulnerabilities facing food systems, has started accepting applications for 2026. The program is not just a competition, but also a multi-stage support mechanism through which ventures develop their business models and fund their pilot implementations.
Priority Areas
Projects applying are expected to provide solutions to one of the following topics.
- Insurance Solutions: Accessible models of climate, crop, or livestock insurance for smallholder farmers.

- Digital Extension: Data-driven digital platforms offering information and advisory services to farmers.
- Agroecology: Innovations supporting sustainable production techniques, soil restoration, and access to local markets.
The program should give special attention to solutions that integrate the following two technologies in particular.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): Use of AI for data analysis, forecasting, and modeling.
- Geospatial Analysis: Use of satellite imagery and remote sensing data.
