The Honnold Foundation has announced a new grant call for NGOs and community-based organizations aiming to strengthen fair access to solar energy for marginalized communities worldwide. Under the program, unrestricted grant support ranging from $25,000 to $150,000 per project will be provided.
Program Objective
The grant program aims to use solar energy as a tool for transformation by reducing social and economic inequalities, decreasing dependence on environmentally harmful fossil fuels, and increasing communities’ resilience to the climate crisis.
Who can apply?
- Non-profit organizations (such as associations, foundations, etc.) and community-based organizations,
- Organizations with strong ties to the communities they serve,
- Organizations that base their projects on community leadership or active community participation.
Supported activities
Within the scope of the program, the following activities are primarily supported:
- Installation of new solar energy infrastructure (grid-connected systems, home solar kits, solar water pumps, etc.),
- Improvement or repair of existing solar energy systems,
- Projects that reduce fossil fuel use and provide concrete benefits to a specific community.
Application process
Applications are carried out in two stages through the Submittable platform:
- Submission of Organization and Project Summary,
- Applicants deemed eligible are invited to submit a full application.
