The Urban Studies Foundation (USF), which aims to produce academic and practical solutions to the multidimensional crises created by urbanization, runs a special funding program under the title "Urban Urgencies." The program aims to support researchers working on urgent issues such as the climate crisis, housing problems, urban inequality, or infrastructure collapses.
Purpose of the program
This fund finances critical and innovative projects that go beyond existing academic patterns and focus on the "urgent" problems of cities. The goal is both to generate academic knowledge and to guide field practices (civil society, local governments).
Who can apply?
- Doctorate Degree: Applicants must have received their doctorate (PhD) within the last 5 years prior to the application date. (Individual Application)
- Independent Researchers: Researchers who are employed at a university, as well as those working within an NGO, may apply.
The project must be within the field of "urban studies" and focus on an urgent issue.
Although this program is an individual fellowship, the researcher needs to be "hosted" (mentored) by an institution (a university or an NGO with research capacity). An NGO in Turkey can host a researcher with a doctorate by reaching an agreement with them.
The program offers researchers the opportunity to work full-time for 2 years.
- Salary Support: The researcher's salary (determined by local standards).
- Research Budget: Additional funding for fieldwork, travel, and material expenses.
- Mentorship: Academic support from the USF network.
