World Food Forum 2025 Transformative Research Competition Applications Opened

Applications are now open for the Transformative Research Challenge (TRC), a global competition organized by the World Food Forum (WFF) under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The TRC aims to support young researchers in developing innovative solutions to transform agrifood systems. Application Deadline: May 9, 2025 at 23:59 (CET)

How Does the Competition Work?

  • Open Call: Participants are invited to submit a two-page concept note based on their chosen award category.
  • Evaluation: Expert reviewers will select the most innovative ideas as semi-finalists.
  • Capacity Building: Semi-finalist teams will receive mentorship and training to further develop their research proposals.
  • Final Presentation: Finalist teams will present their projects to an international jury at the main WFF event at FAO Headquarters in Rome in October 2025.

Who Can Apply?

  • Education: Applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree in a field related to agrifood systems.
  • Team Structure: Applications must be submitted by teams of 3 to 5 members.
  • Age Range: All team members must be between 18 and 35 years old at the time of application.

2025 TRC Award Categories

  • Gender Mainstreaming in PPR Eradication: Support for gender-sensitive research to eliminate PPR disease in small ruminants.
  • Integrated Water Management for Food Security: Solutions for empowering farming and fishing communities facing water scarcity.
  • Sustainable Aquaculture: Innovative approaches that enhance productivity while protecting biodiversity and community well-being.
  • Forestry Innovation: Scientific solutions to promote forest conservation, sustainable management, and improved forest value chains.
