In the webinar, we will draw on Av. Dr. Selmin Cansu Demir’s study, “Evaluation of Child Criminal Justice in the Context of Child Rights”, to explore the position of child rights and childhood status within the criminal justice system. The discussion will focus on the necessity of a rights-based approach to child justice and the impacts of judicial processes on children’s lives. The discussion will be structured around three key propositions:
• Child criminal justice re-traumatizes children unless it transforms into child rights-based justice.
• Judicial processes are not only legal experiences but also emotional, social, and developmental ones.
• True justice is only possible when the child’s voice and agency are included in the process.
The webinar will take place on Thursday, 27 November, from 14:00 to 15:00 (GMT+3) via Zoom. Register here to join the event.
This webinar is organized within the framework of the “Accountability for Children, Advocacy for Rights (ACAR)” Project, implemented with co-financing from the European Union in strategic partnership with UNICEF, under the project aimed at strengthening the monitoring, reporting, and advocacy capacities of CSOs working in the field of child rights.
