Zehirsiz Sofralar Platformu (Platform for Non-Toxic Tables) Warns: Agricultural Poisons Are On Our Table

In 2022, 518 notifications were made by the European Union from Turkey, 311 of which concerned pesticide residues (agricultural poisons). The number of notifications, which has reached a record level in the last two years, raises concerns that the use of pesticides that endanger human health may have also increased in the domestic market.

Platform for Non-Toxic Tables said in a statement that the increase in agricultural toxins has reached record levels. According to ACN's 2021 report, the most frequently reported food products were from Turkey.

According to the report, Turkey ranks first among non-EU countries with a total of 613 reports, 405 of which were pesticides. Turkey is followed by India and China. Among EU member states, Poland ranks first with 381 notifications, France second with 256 notifications, and Germany third with 210 notifications.

We are not condemned to agricultural poisons

To date, nearly 180 thousand people have supported the Non-Toxic campaign (Change.org/ZehirsizSofralar), initiated by the Pesticide Action Network (Pestisit Eylem Ağı) operating under the  Non-Toxic Tables Platform, to ban pesticides that harm all living things and to support eco- friendly methods and the producers who use them. Thanks to the campaign, public awareness was created about the harms of pesticides.

Wheat Association (Buğday Derneği) Food Engineer Merve Atınç calls on all citizens to support the campaign by taking responsibility for their food, in order to immediately ban pesticides that harm the hormonal system of babies and children, pollute the air, water and soil, along with 9 active pesticides still used in our country's agriculture.
