The first Green Economy Conference was held globally in 2009 around the burgeoning Green New Deal theme. In the 11th year of the Green Economy Conferences, we plan to bring up why the Green New Deal is a necessity for Turkey and how the transformation should be carried out in the upcoming period. With the publication of the European Union's European Green Deal in 2019, the trends towards the Green New Deal have strengthened and accelerated globally. Many countries in the process announced their net-zero targets for 2050 through laws, policy documents, or statements of authorized institutions/persons.
Accordingly, many policy changes and regulations came to the fore in ecological, economic, and social terms. Turkey, on the other hand, declared that it would be a part of this global momentum by ratifying the Paris Agreement in October 2021 and announcing its net-zero emission target for 2053.
On the other hand, many details are needed to be discussed due to the long-term goal and the wide scope of the transformation. We think that we will have a productive discussion with your participation at the 11th Green Economy Conference, where we will open a space to share information about the experiences of green transformation in the EU, the factors that make transformation mandatory in Turkey, and the opportunities that transformation can offer.
