New Resources from ERG to Strengthen Children's Green Skills

As the effects of the climate crisis continue to increase, educational resources that support children in developing knowledge, skills, and resilience against this crisis are still limited. Within the scope of the Eco-Creative Pedagogies Project, carried out in partnership by the Education Reform Initiative (ERG), the University of Northampton, and Lancaster University with the support of the British Council, new resources have been developed in this field.

Within the scope of the project, a policy brief and the “Teacher’s Handbook for Green Skills” including classroom activities for teachers were prepared to support children in acquiring sustainability competencies from an early age.

The policy brief emphasizes that green skills are not only technical competencies for future professions, but also life skills that need to be developed starting from childhood. The Teacher’s Handbook offers activities that support preschool and primary school children in connecting with nature, reflecting on sustainability, and developing problem-solving skills.

The resource prepared by teachers also contains practical content that can be used by NGOs working in the field of environmental education with children. The handbook, published as a “community version,” is intended to be improved with contributions from the field.
