CISST Seeks Representative for the Topic of Disabled People in Prison

The Civil Society Association in the Penal System, which monitors and lobbies prison conditions to ensure the fundamental rights and freedoms of prisoners, treat them with dignity, and provide them with access to the appropriate application mechanisms when needed, seeks an Area Representative.

Contract type: Part-time (10 days per month)

Place of work: Istanbul/Kadikoy

Working hours: 10:30 - 18:00

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Correspondence with prisoners,
  • Making requests for granting of human rights,
  • Making requests for information,
  • Maintaining the subject area block and Twitter account,
  • Entering data into the CISST database,
  • Reviewing news and preparing information about the subject area,
  • Preparing articles and other needed materials related to the topic area; making presentations, giving interviews when needed,
  • Preparing proposals for issues to be presented to the Assembly and related to their field,
  • Collaborating with civil society organizations, institutions and structures in the field,
  • Organization of one workshop per year,
  • Preparing/presenting information and documents requested by the coordination team to monitor the project, distributing the information received and conducting internal monitoring,
  • Participate in capacity building trainings recommended by the coordination or the relevant coordinator.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in and/or knowledge of volunteer or professional work in non-governmental organizations, institutions or structures working in the field of rights of persons with disabilities,
  • Interest, production or work experience in prisons,
  • Work in accordance with the principles [1], values and policy documents [2] of human rights and CISST,
  • Staying away from any kind of discriminatory attitude,
  • Knowing the programs of the MS Office,
  • Being aware of professional boundaries in relationship with clients and having a strong work ethic,
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills,
  • Willingness to work as part of a team, be responsible and take initiative when necessary,
  • To be open to feedback,
  • Work diligently and conscientiously, follow through on work, have strong organizational skills,
  • To be results- oriented and solution-oriented.
