Disaster Volunteering Training from the Volunteer School

The Volunteer School continues its “Awareness Seminars” with Disaster Volunteering Training with Ali Ercan Özgür.

Who is Ali Ercan Özgür?
He is one of the founders of the Non-Governmental Organizations Disaster Platform, which started its activities during the Elazig earthquake. Thanks to the lessons learned and the experiences gained from here, it has provided a very important network and experience on behalf of civil society by coordinating all processes in the Izmir earthquake.

Özgür started his volunteering activities with the Habitat Association, which he joined while he was still in high school, and carried out many civil society activities in a short time. Finally, in 2015, he established the Needs Map platform with 7 partners. The platform aims to meet the needs of the city and neighborhood in Turkey in a systematic way with citizen participation. In addition, in 2013, UPS Global Foundation, World Economic Forum, American Chamber of Commerce Foundation, IDEMA and UPS Turkey cooperated with IDEMA project consultancy company, of which he is also one of the founders, in order to increase disaster awareness of SMEs throughout Turkey after the Van earthquake, and to strengthen their preparedness and resilience to disasters. with the Sağlam SME project.

Continuing actively in social responsibility projects, Özgür gave Social Entrepreneurship lectures to Istanbul University Sociology Department, NGO and Social Responsibility Management Master's students in the past term.

Özgür is one of the authors of the book “Local Management Systems: Turkey, Spain, Italy, Poland and Czech Republic” published by TESEV and the book Human Rights in Business Life by the Turkish Corporate Social Responsibility Association. He has many articles and speeches on local development, civil society, sustainability and corporate social responsibility. His last book, "Introduction to Regional Development", was published in 2019.
