I-SAVE project

The Center for Asylum and Migration Studies (IGAM) has started working with non-governmental organizations from Ireland, Greece, and Germany as part of a European Union project aimed at empowering young refugees and migrants to self-advocate for human rights.

Funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus Plus program and to be carried out between February 2021 and August 2023, the I-Save Project is carried out by NGOs in Turkey, Ireland, Greece, and Germany.

Recognizing and realizing your rights!

The project, which is based on realizing meaningful youth participation by putting young refugees and immigrants between the ages of 17-25 at the center of the project; is aimed to contribute to the protection and development of human rights and raising awareness of refugee and host society youth by developing an awareness that is sensitive to the society they live in.

Refugee youth living in 4 countries

While the number of young people under temporary and international protection living in Turkey is 1.7 million, the number of refugee youth living in Greece has reached 29,459 and in Germany, it has reached 26,500. In Ireland, 749 youth refugees are living directly in detention centers. Although the experiences of each of these young people are complex and unique, they all come together on the common ground because they are exposed to discrimination, marginalization, and exploitation.

Project partners

Project partners IGAM from Turkey, The Gaiety School of Acting and The Scoop Foundation from Ireland, Greek Forum of Refugees from Greece, and Freiwilligen-Zentrum from Germany; will exchange and use the skills they have acquired in working with refugees and volunteers, humanitarian aid, human rights, drama and acting to best support young participants.

In which areas will the committees work?

The committees formed by young refugees and migrants from the four countries where the partner organizations of the project are located will carry out the following activities to raise awareness on human rights:

  • Creating a human right themed digital content and platform for young people
  • Strengthening the advocacy skills of this group by preparing a guide for youth workers working with young refugees and migrants
  • Organizing self-advocacy training for young refugees
  • Provide suggestions to NGOs to create their framework for working with young refugees

The logo of the project was designed by young refugees who are members of the committee.
