“İstanbul’un Hayaletleri: Güvencesizliğin Kıy"Ghosts of Istanbul: Afghans on the Edge of Precarity"ısında Afganlar"

"Contemporary Migration Issues Seminars" continues with the seminar titled "Ghosts of Istanbul: Afghans on the Edge of Precarity" on February 25, 2021, jointly organized by Dr. Sibel Karadag, Dr. Deniz Sert and Dr. Didem Danış, and GAR and IFEA-Amimo. This study will be carried out by Sibel Karadağ as researcher and writer, under the coordination of Didem Danış and Deniz Sert, on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at 18.00.

The precarious living conditions of Afghan immigrants living in Istanbul will be comprehensively discussed in the seminar. The exploitation mechanisms that Afghans are exposed to, their vulnerable, uneasy, and insecure lives caused by indifference or lack of documentation, and the working conditions that constitute the heavy labor force in the informal sector will be explained, both along the migration routes and in their lives in Istanbul.

Throughout the seminar, the experiences of Afghans from different legal status and socio-economic-cultural background, both during their migration journey and in urban life, will be shared, and in this context, the Afghan irregular migration movement that has marked the last half-century and influenced vast geography will be discussed.
