Civil society often becomes visible through advocacy, solidarity, and the role it takes on during times of crisis. So, why do people who make up this field choose to work in civil society? What challenges do they face? Despite so much uncertainty, what keeps them in this area?
The new episode of “Let’s Talk Together” will be broadcast on the STGM YouTube channel on Wednesday, July 29 at 19:30. In this episode, the meaning and challenges of working in the civil society field and the solidarity practices that make it possible to stay in this field are discussed. The guest of the program, moderated by Zeynep Arıca, is Assoc. Prof. Alper Akyüz, who has been working in civil society for many years and conducts academic research in this field.
Throughout the program, the following questions are explored:
* Why is civil society an indispensable field for society?
* Why do people choose to work or volunteer in civil society?
* What are the main challenges faced by civil society workers?
* How can burnout and secondary trauma be coped with?
* How can more resilient and sustainable civil society organizations be established?
* How can the motivation for solidarity, hope, and collective production be maintained?
Experiences from the Field: Who Took the Microphone?
This episode also features the experiences of civil society workers and volunteers from different cities and rights areas.
In the “Who Took the Microphone?” section, participants share what working in civil society means to them, the challenges they have faced in the field, how they have coped with burnout, and why they continue to remain in civil society despite everything.
There Is a Way: Truth Justice Memory Center
As in every episode, this one also features a good practice example. The guest of the “There Is a Way” segment is Olcay Özer, Co-Director of the Truth Justice Memory Center. Özer discussed practices such as the social rights policy developed to support the well-being of employees at the institution, in-team participation processes, and a 360-degree feedback mechanism.
