Notes from the Field: What Happened at Our Antakya Office in May?

Throughout May, our Antakya office hosted various civil society organisations' events, introductory visits and coordination meetings. From cultural and artistic gatherings to podcast recordings, project presentations to social media training, our office hosted a wide range of activities for different institutions.

Who visited our office, and what did we do?

  • The Zenginler Atölyesi Culture and Arts Association screened the documentary SEVA, directed by Nesime Karateke, at our Antakya office. The screening, which focused on the emotions of people living in the earthquake zone, was attended by 12 women and 10 men. A discussion with the director followed the screening.
  • The Digital Seed Foundation visited our office to learn about the work being carried out.
  • The podcast recording of ‘Eda's World,’ featuring journalist Burcu Özkaya Günaydın, was made at our office. The broadcast addressed the difficulties of real news finding its way into the media in Antakya and irregular expropriations.
  • We met with the Living Social Space and Solidarity Association.
  • During our meeting with the Izmir-based Living Social Space and Solidarity Association, we discussed the association's upcoming children's projects in Hatay in June.
  • In a meeting with Dr. Aygül Akkuş from Cappadocia University, projects aimed at enabling women producers to sell their products on digital platforms were introduced. We also supported the establishment of communication with relevant women's organisations.
  • The Game Movement Association held a project presentation meeting at our office. A total of 18 people, including 13 women and 5 men, attended the meeting.
  • Twelve NGO representatives (nine women and three men) working in the field of protection attended the coordination meeting organised under the leadership of UNFPA. These meetings are held regularly every month at our office.
  • At the meeting organised jointly by UNHCR and UNFPA, the provincial coordinators of NGOs operating in Hatay shared their current information and experiences. A total of 16 people, including 11 women and 5 men, attended the meeting.
  • The Antakya Art Association organised a talk and book signing event for writer Cabir Özyıldız's new book.
  • The EU Delegation to Turkey Communication Team met at our Antakya office to conduct an interview with ALİKEV. After the interview, the office was introduced and a short interview was conducted with the team.
  • On 30 May, we organised a ‘Training on Effective Social Media Use for NGOs’ supported by META. The training, which began with an opening speech by STGM Digital Support Specialist İlker, was attended by 15 people (10 women and 5 men) from 10 organisations. At the end of the training, each organisation also shared advertisements in practice.
