Our painful loss: We have lost Murat Çekiç, a member of our association

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Murat Çekiç, a well-known figure in Turkey's civil society, a human rights advocate, and a member of our association. We extend our condolences to his family, loved ones, friends, fellow human rights defenders, and the LGBTI+ movement.

Who is Murat Çekiç?

Murat Çekiç graduated from the Middle East Technical University with a degree in Political Science and Public Administration. He obtained a certificate in International Civil Society Leadership within the School of Syracuse University.

He began his professional career at the Human Rights Joint Platform, the national human rights network in Turkey. He served as the Deputy Director of the Turkey Family Health and Family Planning Foundation and as a senior advisor for the Turkey Europe Foundation. He held the position of Director of Amnesty International Turkey. Most recently, Çekiç worked as a key expert in Civil Society Capacity Development for the Etkiniz EU Program. Çekiç had written articles on human rights, discrimination, and international standards for various national and international publications. He was selected as a Marshall Memorial Fellow.
