Solidarity Sustains in Pandemic

We talked to Tohum Autism Foundation and Denizli Autism Association on the occasion of April 2, World Autism Awareness Day, with children with special needs who are among the groups most affected by the COVID19 epidemic and what we can do to improve their quality of life in the pandemic.

We talked to Tohum Autism Foundation and Denizli Autism Association on the occasion of April 2, World Autism Awareness Day, with children with special needs who are among the groups most affected by the COVID19 epidemic and what we can do to improve their quality of life in the pandemic. 

In the first part of the conversation, Nergis Koçarslan from the Tohum Autism Foundation explained that there are a lot of duties for families and teachers in order to protect the children from negative effects and added that it’s important to maintain routines in order to hinder a decrease in life quality on behalf of the children who need routines essentially.

Dudu Karaman from Denizli Autism Association mentioned that the quarantine which had entered everyone’s life because of the coronavirus pandemic, was not a new situation for the children with autism and their families because they’re in an invisible quarantine already.

Karaman who said that there are lessons to take from the happenings and the crisis that affects the whole world emphasized the importance of coexistence based on rights and added: “Solidarity keeps us alive.”
