103 - Rights-Based Approach and Mainstreaming

A rights-based approach is a conceptual framework based on international human rights standards aimed at promoting and protecting human rights. It analyzes obligations, inequalities, and vulnerabilities, and tackles discriminatory practices and unjust power structures that hinder human rights. The goal of this approach is to mainstream it into all plans, programs, and practices.

103 - Rights-Based Approach and Mainstreaming is designed to develop the necessary skills for civil society organizations that strive for equal opportunities and access for everyone to internalize a rights-based approach and to have a holistic understanding of the rights field.
 

• To learn how a rights-based approach differs from other approaches and who the rights holders and duty bearers are.
• To learn about the relationship between gender equality, anti-discrimination, and a rights-based approach.
• To be able to identify the steps that need to be taken to mainstream a rights-based approach and learn methods for developing a rights-based perspective on issues outside your working areas.
• To gain knowledge about the role and importance of participation rights, freedom of expression and association within the mainstreaming of a rights-based approach.
