The "Protected Areas and Climate Change Workshop" was held in Ankara in 2010 with the support of many institutions, within the scope of the "Strengthening the Management of Forest Protected Areas Project" supported by the Global Environment Fund (GEF). In the workshop, which was held for the first time at the national level on this subject, the “Turkish National Strategy on Protected Areas and Climate Change” was prepared with the contributions of participating institutions and experts. One of the first national strategies in the world and approved by official institutions, the “Turkey National Strategy on Protected Areas and Climate Change” was published in cooperation with the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, UNDP Turkey and WWF-Turkey.

The study, which was finalized as a result of the opinions and suggestions of the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, the General Directorate of Forestry, the abolished Special Environmental Protection Agency and the General Directorate of Environmental Management, the Climate Change Department, are included in the Climate Change National Action Plan, the important priorities of this strategy.
